Well into more … stuff. ANIMALS!

And regarding this, I have many questions to ask actually.

Why is it that people treat animals like dogs, hamsters, kittens with like “AWWWWWW” **hugglesqueeze**kind of responses, while they with spiders its like “EEEEEK!” **kills**. Its like we are so disgusted by the killing and maiming of kittens, that CAT SOCIETIES step up to stamp it out for good. But with sharks? Sharks are endangered, and misunderstood. In fact, they are in much dire straits as compared to the likes of kittens (duh), but no one really minds that we kill them for food, for expensive food, in the most inhumane ways possible. The sharks involved have their fins cut off, and their bodies thrown back into the sea to drown, or to be fed helplessly on by its “brothers”. Sharks are an unusual species. It is not widely known or told, but sharks cannot stop swimming. Unlike most fish, sharks lack a swim bladder, which is a flexible-walled, gas-filled sac located in the dorsal portion of body cavity. This organ controls the fish’s buoyancy and in some species is important for hearing. Because they have no swim bladder to keep them buoyant, sharks sink when not swimming. Sharks’ bodies are heavier than water (naturally). The nurse shark, skates and rays have adapted to resting on the bottom, but most sharks are constantly on the move. Moving forward with their mouths open is how sharks move water across their gills for breathing. Most cannot stop for long or move backwards as can bony fishes. Without fins, they can’t swim, can’t escape danger, and in most cases, ironically, drown. It’s a cruel fate. Try imagining yourself having your limbs cut off and your body dumped in the sea, while you gape for air. Then imagine someone sitting in a restaurant somewhere, enjoying a nice expensive meal, slurping soup not even FLAVOURED, but merely TEXTURED by your arm. Is it WORTH IT.

An important factor contributing to the continuation of the shark fin trade, is our asian culture. Shark fin soup is a sign of prestige and respect, for it is commonly believed to hold the “power” of the shark. Heck, there are even illegal sales of shark pill thingies that supposedly prevent illnesses, due to the sharks “resistance” against illnesses. for further convincing watch sharkwater. Really good movie. Truth is, even sharks contract cancer. And if you consider yourself educated, and think that by eating another animal will you gain its superior properties then whoop de doo. Why don’t we just eat elephants to boost our memory then? Anyway at weddings and other important banquets in the asian region, shark’s fin soup is considered ESSENTIAL, and “cannot be done without”. Why is this? Seriously though I have no idea. Truth be told though, we are acting like barbarians. Sharks are one of the oldest surviving species of animals that have remained largely unchanged through the age of the dinosaurs till now, and just like that we end their existence at the hands of hairless beach apes (quote Sherman’s lagoon). Future generations are going to turn around and look at us and talk about how barbaric we are, just like how we look back at slavery, and shake our heads at the very thought. It was considered acceptable then, as shark finning is considered now. Or maybe, more specifically, we know that what we do is wrong, but the material gains from such acts cloud our morals. The saddest part is not that shark finning has been banned by now; the saddest part isn’t that the earth is dying because of us. The saddest part is, that we KNOW what we’re doing, but we aren’t doing anything to stop it.

Aren’t we all like sentinent beings of this earth? All EQUAL! Yes equal! All of us have the right of existence, and everything is perfect in its own way. Perfect to fit their roles, in a supposedly perfect balance. We are RUINING THIS! and the worst part is that we are aware of it.. yet no one important is doing anything, ANYTHING about it..

And I say bugs need to be treated with more respect.
